Listed on the 1956 A Preliminary Check List of the Cultivated Woody Plants of Frost Amphitheater, one can see it in the planter boxes on the east side of Tresidder Union near the coffee house and in the Law School inner court. Others will be found around campus in shady locations, including a healthy plant growing on the east side of the Carnegie Institute main building.

Name derivation: Fatsia – Latinized adaptation of Japanese name for plant; japonica – Japanese.
