Eucalyptus blakelyi
Blakely’s red gum
Southeastern Australia

This smooth-barked eucalypt sometimes has rough bark at its base. The small buds in groups of 7–15 have long conical opercula, a distinguishing feature. Branchlets and buds are sometimes covered with a white wax. Juvenile leaves are oval-shaped. Two planted in 2008 grow in the Bracewell Memorial Grove in the Arboretum, raised from seed collected two years earlier from Professor Ron Bracewell’s experimental planting site on Alpine Road.
