Old, substantial examples of the bluish-gray variety of this hybrid juniper abound in the residential areas of campus. When pruned to reveal their handsome trunks, they take on the character of picturesque small trees, such as those flanking the front steps at 836 Mayfield Avenue. Landscape architect Thomas Church specified several around campus, including in White Plaza. Other smaller varieties with greener foliage are extensively used on both sides of the rear of Memorial Church.
