Ulmus davidiana var. japonica Accolade Accolade elm
Eastern Asia
One of the most promising elm clones resistant to Dutch Elm Disease, Accolade elm was selected at the Morton Arboretum in Illinois and introduced in the 1990s. Accolade is the trade name, ‘Morton’ the cultivar. The only examples on campus line the sidewalk of Pasteur Drive at 1201 Welch Road. Towards the 240 Pasteur Drive end, a few Frontier elms are mixed in, allowing for convenient comparison. Both kinds have typically elm-like leaves with doubly serrated leaf margins and lopsided bases. However, come fall, Accolade’s foliage turns yellow, Frontier’s a purplish red.
