Quercus oblongifolia
Mexican blue oak
Southwestern U.S. to N. Mexico
Closely related to Quercus engelmannii from Southern California, but with elliptical leaves of almost breathtaking symmetry, this is the latest bluish-leaved oak to set root on campus. Five planted in 2026 line the path at the northeast corner of Levin Field, south of the package lockers, interspersed with Q. gravesii.
The species remains rare in the area, though a specimen grown from seed collected from the base of Mount Lemmon in Arizona can be seen at 10335 North Tantau Avenue in Cupertino, on the berm southeast of the building.
