Quercus gravesii
Chisos red oak
W. Texas to NE. Mexico
Similar to Q. canbyi but with generally deeper-cut lobes, this red oak colors up in midwinter. Along the path at the northeast corner of Levin Field, just south of the package lockers, five of these and several Q. oblongifolia were planted together in 2026.
The earliest known examples in the area were planted in the mid-2010s: a dozen or so at Apple Park in Cupertino, along East Homestead Road. Arborist Dave Muffly noted that compared with the interspersed Q. canbyi, these stood out for their upright growth habit, making for a better urban tree.
