Quercus castaneifolia
chestnut-leaved oak
South Caspian
Quercus castaneifolia branchlet with leaves and acorn, just north of Arrillaga Alumni Center. Sairus Patel, 14 Oct 2018
See a specimen of this deciduous oak just north of the Arrillaga Alumni Center, between the seating area and the bike parking. Across the path, near the east end of Bing Concert Hall, several smaller trees are scattered through the lawn, transplanted there in 2012 when the hall was built. All of Stanford’s trees were grown from acorns gathered at the Shields Grove at UC Davis, and may be hybrids with Q. cerris.
