Parkinsonia ‘Desert Museum’
Desert Museum palo verde
Hybrid
Very similar to the Mexican palo verde (P. aculeata), which you can see in the Arizona Garden, but thornless and sterile, this hybrid of that species with foothills palo verde (P. microphylla) and blue palo verde (P. florida) is reputed to to grow more vigorously and upright, and have a more extended flowering season, than any of its parents. Five were planted in the McMurtry Building’s rooftop terrace (2016), and three in the back courtyard of the new Public Safety Building at 233 Bonair Siding (2021).
